  1. Exploring the Light 2014 Opening Reception

    The annual Lone Tree Photographic Art Show and Sale has a new name – Exploring the Light! Exploring the Light will run from April 16, 2014 to June 8, 2014 at the Lone Tree Arts Center and is presented by the Lone Tree Arts Commission and the Lone Tree Photo Club, and is supported by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). The public is invited to attend the opening reception to mingle with artists, sample hors d'oeuvres, enjoy a live musical performance and purchase original works of art. All juried images and bin work are for sale at the Lone Tree Arts Center Box Office.

    2014 Juror Glenn Randall will host a four-hour photo seminar titled Mastering Dramatic Light on Saturday, April 26, 2014, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at Lone Tree Arts Center. Mastering Dramatic Light Many of the most dramatic landscape photographs are taken in "high-voltage" light, with sunrise or sunset light stabbing through clouds and brilliantly spotlighting a distant peak or sandstone tower, leaving the equally important foreground in deep shadow. Capturing a full range of tones in such high-contrast situations, and reproducing them in a way our visual system considers natural, has challenged landscape photographers ever since photography was invented over 150 years ago. Our eyes can see a range of light intensities, from brightest highlight to darkest shadow, of about 10,000 to 1, but even good sensors can only capture a much smaller range, perhaps 500 to 1, and a print c
