Trash & Recycling

If you have questions or concerns about trash & recycling service but want to avoid phone wait times, you can e-mail [email protected] instead.

To receive notifications for any service delays or cancellations sign up for the City’s text message notification system, TextMyGov.

The City of Lone Tree is one of only two Colorado cities that provide residential trash & recycling services, free of charge, to its residents. The City contracts with Waste Connections to provide those services.

The City does not provide trash cans.  You can call Waste Connections directly (303-288-2100) to get one from them.  They do charge a delivery fee and they remain Waste Connections property.

Your weekly trash and recycling pick-up day is determined based on your neighborhood. Trash service occurs on the same day every week and recycling service occurs every-other week.  Waste Connections requests that you have your trash and recycling out by 7:00 a.m.  Below is an overview of trash days based on where your home is located within the City. You can also visit Waste Connections online and type in your address to pull up your schedule.

Collection Information

Waste Connections suggests you purchase a “waste hauler approved” trash can (container sizes from 30-105 gallon are acceptable). These can be found at many hardware stores. They will collect unlimited household trash and up to ten bags of yard waste (leaves and grass). There is a 40-pound weight limit per trash can or bag of yard waste. Please bag all animal waste. Branches and brush must be cut into 4′ lengths and tied securely in 24″ diameter bundles. There is a limit of 5 bundles per week.  Please do not place construction debris in your trash cans.  Please call Waste Connections directly to hear about some pick up options.

Waste Connections is unable to accept any liquid waste (oil, paint, etc.) or batteries. If your trash contains wet paint, oil or hazardous materials, WARNING: a clean-up fee will be assessed. The City of Lone Tree has contracted with WM Curbside Inc. to provide hazardous material disposal.

Large Item Collection

Waste Connections will pick up large items such as sofas (or other furniture), box springs, mattresses, lawn mowers and/or construction debris for an additional fee. Please call them at 303-288-2100 to obtain a quote and schedule a pickup.

Waste Connections cannot accept refrigerators, freezers or televisions.

Christmas Tree Collection

Christmas trees are collected as part of the routine weekly waste collection service. There is no additional fee.

Holiday Schedule

During a holiday week, if your regular pickup day falls on or after the holiday,  your pickup day will be delayed by one day. If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, your service will not be delayed.  If you have any questions regarding your pickup, please call Waste Connections at 303-288-2100.

Waste Connections observes the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Recycling

There is no additional cost for recycling services. Waste Connections provides residential single-stream recycling to Lone Tree residents. Single-stream recycling gives customers the ability to mix recyclable paper, plastic and glass in one bin. Recycling is picked up every other week.  Please have your recycles out on the curb by 7:00 a.m.  If you are recycling large boxes or moving boxes, Waste Connections asks that you cut the cardboard down to 2 ft x 2 ft sections and bundle them together.  The bundles should be no heavier than 40 pounds each.

The City of Lone Tree will help offset the cost of a recycle cart ordered from Waste Connections.  If you would like to order a recycling cart there are a couple things to keep in mind.  These are 96 gallon carts.  They are approximately 26″ wide, 35″ deep and 46″ high.  There is a charge of $34, which is non-refundable, for this fee the cart needs to stay at the address and there is a $100 fine for taking it with you.  The City will provide only one cart to each household with this process.  You are welcome to either purchase an additional recycle cart of your own from any hardware store or rent one directly through Waste Connections by calling them at 303-288-2100.  To order your initial recycling bin, fill out this form or contact Lone Tree Public Works at 303-662-8112.
